Seconds on Sunday

I usually don’t post twice in one day, but there are exceptions. Days when I bake a lot or do a bunch of cooking, I sometimes like to divide up all the photos and not have a huge, long post that no one’s going to finish reading. So that’s what I’m doing today.

I skipped out on Sunday dinner with Jay’s folks, because I’ve been dying to make some Hazelnut Brown Butter Brownies, ever since I got my last issue of Food & Wine.


I could’ve eaten the batter for these with a spoon. I don’t know what it is about browned butter, but it makes food taste SO much richer, with so much more depth. I want to use it almost exclusively from now on when I bake!


The recipe suggests serving them with ice cream. I didn’t have any, but thought some mascarpone with a little dusting of cinnamon might be rather tasty.


Indeed, it was MAGNIFICENT! And incredibly rich…So much so, that I struggled to finish mine.

I’m glad I chose to make something not so rich for dinner:


Chicken nuggets, and some fries. I used the scale again, and I was a little disappointed with my portion.


I could’ve eaten twice as much. I also ate three ounces of fries. Whoopie! Still, I’m not hungry, I’m not grossly full, and I’ve already decided that if I do get hungry later, I’ll have some fruit. Maybe a salad, since the brownies were so sweet, and I need something a little more savory. I did get to open my gourmet ketchup:


It was good–Better than I was expecting. It was very tomato-y, and very tangy. Not nearly as sweet as regular ketchups out there, which is good. My fries (and chicken) were tasty after being dipped in it. Jay and the bambino weren’t interested in trying it, but I’m glad I did.
