We had a bit of excitement yesterday afternoon, and a rather short-lived yet stormy evening. The excitement involved a b-a-t in our kitchen…The 3rd one in the 2 1/2 years we’ve been in this house. What freaks me out the most about this instance is the fact that it was hanging out on the side of our utensil drawers, right by the dishwasher…As I had the dishwasher open and was unloading the dishes!!!!! I have no idea how long it had been there, why I didn’t notice it right away, but as soon as I did, I shrieked and ran out to the living room to find Jay. Then I hid in his computer room/library with the bambino until he disposed of it (and thank gods he does that stuff…I live in fear of the day when something like that occurs and he’s not around). I’ve since scrubbed everything down with bleach water, and re-ran the dishwasher, but every little squeak is still making me skittish, and each time I go into the kitchen, I look around all over the place to make sure nothing unusual is lurking anywhere. And I keep checking that spot by the dishwasher to make sure it doesn’t have any friends dropping by!
After that, and because it was late enough, we just popped out to Culver’s for some dinner. I wasn’t in any mood to cook and I was slightly peeved at the you-know-what (if I don’t actually name it, maybe we won’t have another one for awhile, or ever again!) for invading my sanctuary.
Right around the time we were getting ready to put the bambino down for the night, we had a very quick-moving storm roll through. I think from start to finish, it lasted all of 10 minutes, but we wound up with a double rainbow when it was over:
It’s a little hard to see in the photo unless you enlarge it, but there were 2 rainbows. Ever since the bambino watched The Muppet Movie, he’s been obsessed with rainbows (it’s particularly heartwarming to listen to him sing along with Kermit the Frog’s Rainbow Connection), so I thought he’d like the picture of it.
It’s nice enough out this morning that I’ve got the windows open and there’s a breeze blowing. I was trying to come up with something for breakfast, and just opted for sausage and pancakes.
They’re not large pancakes by any means, but I could see this being served alongside someone’s eggs, bacon, sausage and whatever else. I could only finish 1 3/4 of mine (although I did eat my 3 sausage links). It’s no wonder people’s ideas of serving sizes and meal portions are out of control these days.
It looks like we’re going over for Sunday dinner with the in-laws this afternoon. We haven’t been over in awhile, so we probably should go. I’ll tackle the laundry and some pizza dough when we get back!
