“I couldn’t hear what they had to say…”

It’s been a long and busy week. We’ve had things to do each night, whether it be yoga or yard work. Yesterday, I took off work early because the bambino got feverish at daycare. Turns out one of his ears is infected. I’m just glad we caught it before we head off to Omaha this weekend. I’ve also been taking the occasional photos, but obviously, haven’t blogged in a few days.

And because I refuse to go to the store until we get back, we’ve once again been trying to use up things in the pantry/fridge. Monday night’s semi-lackluster meal was just chicken & rice (with a bunch of hot sauce for the adults:

That evening, while blog surfing, I came across a recipe for Manestra, on Kahakai Kitchen, so I decided we’d have that on Tuesday. I had all the ingredients for it–although we did cave & get some pita bread, and I used canned tomatoes instead of fresh. It was still tasty:

Yesterday, while I was cleaning up the kitchen, I made the mistake of leaving the bambino alone with access to writing instruments:

In his defense, he DID try to clean the pencil marks off–They’re somewhat smeared where he tried to wipe them off with a napkin. I’d’ve been a lot more irritated with him had I already repainted the dining room. But seeing as it’ll be awhile before that happens, I’ll deal with a mini-masterpiece next to my desk!

And because we’re limited on breakfast options, this morning I mixed up some farina (aka “creamy wheat”), courtesy of Bob’s Red Mill. I keep it on hand for the version of stracciatella that I make, but I was hungry, and I didn’t really want the high fiber cereal Jay bought. I dumped some extras in it:

I think I’ll just save it for the next time I make stracciatella.

Abby & I went to lunch and we wound up popping over to Choco Latte. I’m going put back all the weight I lost if I don’t stay away from this place! I wound up getting an almond latte (which I now love even more than my usual hazelnut latte), and some chocolate-covered espresso beans (although I brought those back to share with the rest of the Trust department). I also caved and got some gourmet marshmallows:

4 came in a package–Two white & two pink. I ate one, gave one to Allison, and the bambino & I shared the other two. The pink ones are strawberry-flavored, and the white ones were like eating a cloud. And I don’t really even like marshmallows that much, but I’m sure I’ll be buying these again. Delicious!
