“I’m a loser, baby, so why don’t you kill me?”

I’m sure if there’s anyone reading today, they’ve noticed a few changes here on the blog. Not surprisingly, I did not advance to the next round in Project Food Blog. I took it a lot harder than I thought I would…I was actually crying a couple times last night about it. Silly, I know. I was also tempted to writing a scathing rant all about how the blogging world favors the younger, richer & most popular, but 24 hours later, I’m over it. I’ve been toying with the idea of redoing the look of the blog, but I wanted to wait until I was eliminated from the contest before I did anything. And now that I’m out, I can revamp my site. Already today I’ve gone through 3 different themes, although I think I’ve settled on one. At least for the time being, anyway.

We did the grocery shopping this morning, although we went to the farmers market first (and I didn’t even need eggs this time!). I was on the lookout for meat, and I thought I’d try a new vendor this time:

When the Brookings Farmers Market website was updated earlier this year, Dakota Natural Beef was listed as one of the new vendors for this year. However, I’ve only seen them there a couple of times, and this morning, I decided to take a chance. I felt bad, because out of the 4 or 5 things I asked the guy for, all he had was ground beef and steaks:

The bambino has been asking for steak every time I ask what he wants for dinner, and we haven’t had it for awhile. And I do like a good ribeye. Plus, I’ve been craving a baked potato, and nothing goes better with a nice juicy steak than a fluffy baked potato drowning in butter. I spent more than I’d planned, but it’s okay. We’re good on meat for awhile.

I also spent much more at the grocery store than my usual $40:

While I am officially on vacation now (as of 5:10 PM yesterday), I did offer to bake some cookies or bars for a bank function next week, so I stocked up on a few things:

Especially FAGE!!!

I think I’ve become addicted to this stuff. It’s like crack to me now, and much as I like Chobani, I think I’m eating Fage for as long as I can get it in Brookings! The big tub of it is for some yogurt waffles I’m going to make tomorrow morning–It’s also an excuse to use up more oats. I’m also planning on making an apple-pecan coffee cake as well as some muffins:

Pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, to be exact. Since I’ll have time to kill Monday before my pedicure, I’ll see about posting recipes then. Right now, I need to take my child for a walk,  go unload my dishwasher, and find my stracciatella recipe, and get to work on making a light dinner. We’ve eaten out every night this week, and I am determined to break that pattern tonight.

Sharing is caring!

  1. I love the new look! I VOTED for you! I was going to vote for Iowa Girl, but I saw that you were in and so I gave my vote to you!
    I love your RELATABLE page!
BTW… I bought some Fage today and I mixed it with sugar free jelly, so good!

    • Aww, thanks! And thanks for your vote! :) IGE was one I did vote for–And really, I’m glad she got the Reader’s Choice spot. Of some of the “young-uns” that I read, she is the least pretentious & the most real out there. I swear, Fage really is like crack–I can’t get over it! I could eat it for every meal!!

  2. Oh my – pumpkin chocolate chip muffins and apple pecan coffee cake sound so good. Can’t wait for those recipes! I’ve been wanting to try and sneak pumpkin in something to get the kids to try it – this will be a good breakfast!

    • Erin–The pumpkin chocolate chip muffins are awesome…I got the recipe awhile back from some flier at my grocery store here in SoDak! The apple pecan coffee cake is courtesy of Martha Stewart. That’ll be a new one, but I love apples, pecans, and coffee cake on their own. I’m sure it will be awesome too! Hmm…I’ve already posted my entry for today…Maybe I’ll get to work posting those recipes so you can try them out!

  3. I love Steak Recipes, but my favorites are the ones I saw on LaCense Beef. They have some really delicious ideas. Though I do work for them, they honestly offer a lot of great recipes to try, as well as high quality, grass fed beef that you can order. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune if you order your healthy steaks on line. I would definitely recommend them.
