I hate colds, I really do. There’s nothing more annoying & irritating than the common cold. You’re not really sick enough to stay in bed and rest, but you feel just sick enough that you don’t want to do much of anything. Bah! There’s something going around work, and I seriously wish people would just stay home when they’re ill, instead of spreading germs all over the place. I say that as I will be getting ready to go into work myself here in a couple hours, but I’m thinking of taking care of the bare necessities I need to get done, then coming back home. It all depends how I feel…Right now I’m waiting for my behind-the-counter pseudoephedrine & OTC Advil to kick in.
I took yesterday afternoon off, with the original intention of going for a run, then going to the grocery store. That was before this stupid cold slammed into me like a ton of bricks. When I got home, I futzed around online for a couple hours, picked up the bambino, then went to the store. It’s amazing how quickly grocery prices have risen recently, because this is all I got:
Okay, I suppose I didn’t need to buy organic milk, but like my obsession with Fage now, I’ve been spoiled by the milk from Burbach’s Countryside Dairy. Had the weather forecast been a little better for this weekend, I would’ve been tempted to go back to Pomegranate, and get more.
I figured I’d go ahead and pick up one of these…I used to be able to get 3 meals out of a 10-pack, but now that the bambino can eat a whole pork chop himself instead of just a half, I just divide the package in two, so I’m still getting multiple meals.
And there’s all the rest. Once again, had it not been for SoDak’s awesomely craptastic food tax, I would’ve come in right at budget, but I think my total was something like $42.90, and the tax I paid was $2.59. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but if you think about it, in Ohio, that $2.59 could’ve bought a gallon of milk. And we go through a lot of milk in this house. We’ll be fine. I have chicken in the freezer, another monster pork loin roast, more ground beef, and the pork chops. I still will probably break out the frittata sometime soon, but that’s just to help stretch things out a bit. I didn’t work on my menu before I left, but I have enough to work with so I’m not worried.
And because I’m impatient and somewhat of a dork, I will now announce the winner of my doughnut pan giveaway! My brain is too addled, and I don’t have the patience to figure out how to get the stupid Random number generator to show in this post, so bear with me. It first chose Comment #10, from Abby. Jenny’s a fellow Ohio-Ex-Pat, and thanks to her comment, I’ve discovered the band Ladytron, who I’m really starting to love. It does crack me up a little at how many people have already entered her giveaway–At one point last night, she had 520 comments, and I joked to Jay that that just blew my little giveaway out of the water. And with that, I should be off to get ready for work. My drugs have kicked in, so while I feel a little like I’m under water, I don’t ache like an 80-year-old invalid, so I should be good to go for a few hours!
