Little chocolate donuts

Before I got knocked on my behind last week, the bambino requested that I make doughnuts for breakfast on Sunday. I didn’t really leave the couch for much of anything besides tea and toast, so the doughnuts didn’t happen. I made it up to him today, though.


Delicious baked chocolate doughnuts. I didn’t use ganache, although I was planning on it & even went back to the store yesterday to buy cream. A glaze was just as easy.


Although maybe if I had made the ganache, there would’ve been enough to cover more doughnuts. No matter. I have powdered sugar & can just shake the rest in that.

I was going to make cupcakes this afternoon as well as bread. I got the bread made, but never got around to the cupcakes. I feel slightly guilty about baking desserts when I have an abundance of Girl Scout cookies hanging out in my kitchen, but I’ve been wanting to make cupcakes for over a week now (I have no idea why). I even settled on gingerbread cupcakes with buttercream frosting. I’ll have to make them sometime this week, since I didn’t get them done today.


I was hungry/munchy enough today that once the bread was cooled, I sliced off a couple pieces and slathered some butter on them. I got to use the multi-grain flour I picked up at Pomegranate a couple weeks ago, which was nice. It made for a slight change from my usual whole-wheat bread, which was nice. And it’s just a little sweeter than my regular bread.

I did laundry in between snacking, and shortly after 5, got to work on making Lemon Brown Sugar Chicken. Unlike last time, I used plain brown rice to serve it with, and I restrained myself from inhaling it, so that I’d have something for lunch tomorrow.

I really should just double the recipe the next time I make it, so that I have a LOT of leftovers. As it is, I did something I quit doing back when the bambino was still an infant and learning to eat solid food–I cleaned his plate of all he didn’t finish.


It really is that good. And I scraped up whatever sauce was left in the baking dish…Sweet/sour/delicious! I should maybe make this only once every 2 weeks, so I don’t get burned out on it. But I don’t think I will.

Diana was cleaning out some stuff in her house (spring cleaning, I assume–Something I desperately need to get working on in my own house), and gave me a bunch of old cookbooks & magazine recipe collections. I’m excited to sit and go through them. As it is, I’ve already found something from the Pioneer Woman that I want to make soon. I think it’ll be good next weekend, since it’s apparently going to get cold, crappy & snowy once again. Winter’s last gasp, I suppose.

  1. I would love to make this, but I think I would just make sure the chicken is done from the skillet and then make the sauce, pour it over and eat! I can’t see cooking it for 30 more minutes. Even though it looks wonderful! I jsut don’t think I can wait!!!

    • Oh, I think it’s worth the wait–Once the sugar starts to carmelize, it’s just mouth-wateringly perfect! And the chicken turns out so moist & delicious! I’m such a dork–I can’t stop raving about it! :D
