I took a little hiatus from blog-land for a couple days…Emotionally, it’s been gut-wrenching. For any of my readers who also follow Eden, the prognosis for her father is not good, and it just kills me, because I’ve come to consider Eden a good friend, and remembering what my grandmother went through when she was dying, I have an idea of what’s in store for her and her father, and I wish there was something I could do for them both. Anyone who reads Monet’s blog also knows she’s been through the ringer this year as well. I’m not overly religious in the slightest, but I’ve been praying for both their families and will continue to do so.
And in the spirit of living life to the fullest, I went to Allison’s last night for a party. It was a nice enough evening that I walked (she lives something like 7 or 8 blocks away).
I had originally planned on being home by 11, but I was having so much fun that I stayed out really late. Around midnight we headed downtown to the bars to continue our celebrations (and presumably to give Allison’s husband a break from all our antics!). We also watched the 1 a.m. Polar Plunge.
After a few more drinks and some dancing, Allison’s sister wanted food, so we popped into Cook’s Kitchen. I had no idea it was open late at night (can you tell I don’t get out much anymore?!)! Funny thing, as soon as we walked in, I saw my stylist sitting in a booth–And she was pretty much in the same state we all were. I really wanted something with hash browns, but the late-night menu is limited, so I opted for some biscuits & gravy:
This guy kept zonking out & waking up anytime someone walked into the restaurant! Shortly after I snapped this picture, dude was out like a light again. After we all finished eating, we headed home–And even though it was about 2:30 a.m., I walked back home. Much different than when I left my house:
And then this morning, after being awakened by the bambino around 7ish, and after lots of loafing, we got ourselves ready for some lunch at Nick’s. It was nice enough this afternoon that we ate outside (plus it was packed inside, which it usually is at lunchtime). After we were done eating, the bambino & I dropped Jay off at home, then headed to the grocery store. I spent basically my budget for 2 weeks, but I got a few stock-up things:
Sadly, the Fage at Hy-Vee this morning was either expired, or would be expiring in a couple days. And even though I heart Stonyfield, I’m still spoiled on Greek yogurt. I figured at least by getting whole milk yogurt, it might soften the blow!
Bare Chicken was on sale, which was awesome, as I decided that I’m going to make this recipe tonight. And I figured that since we didn’t get down to Sioux Falls, I’d just go ahead and get some Organic Prairie ground beef. It will be nice once the Farmers Market opens again, and I can stock up on beef there.
I opted for some Oat Revolution this time. I like oatmeal and all, and I know I will be angering the food blogging gods with my purchase of “instant” oatmeal, but quite honestly, some mornings before work, it’s a pain in me arse to fix old-fashioned oats! And outside of some nut butter of some sort, I don’t put much else into it anyway! So I cut a corner. Besides, I remembered how awesome the Cinnamon Roll Oatmeal tasted, and I wanted some again. I just wish I’d visited the website before I went to the store…Apparently they have a buy-two-get-one-free coupon, and I could’ve gotten myself a 3rd box! Oh well. There’s always next time.
We went out walking for awhile this afternoon. We walked around the neighborhood and checked out some of the flooding in the park close to our house:
I opted not to cross the bridge. I’m kind of a chicken when it comes to bridges and deep rushing water. For one, I’m afraid of heights. For two, I can’t swim, and I panic in any water higher than my waist. For three, I have this unnerving and completely irrational fear that if I’m on a bridge, right when I get to the center, it will collapse and I will plunge.
And in spite of my complete exhaustion, I should go sort some laundry, and get that buttermilk chicken started. I’m getting hungry!
