“This toads the wet sprocket.”

Ah, Futurama. Who knew an animated series would have enough quotes regarding toads to enable my titling two blog posts in a row? I really wanted to order a pizza tonight, but I’d also gotten the bright idea of using up the last of our chicken-apple-maple sausage. I was trying to think of something besides breakfast-for-dinner to make again, and I remembered I’d been wanting to try Toad-in-the-Hole for awhile. I gave the bambino the option (after a toddler-ized explanation of what Toad-in-the-Hole is) and that’s what he picked. So I got to work:

A week or so ago, Lisa, one of my coworkers, sold me some eggs from her farm. I am always shocked whenever I get farm-fresh eggs, at how beautifully golden in color the yolks are.

That’s 2 eggs mixed in with some milk.

I had to let the batter rest for 30 minutes, so I peeled up some potatoes and got those going. I also started assembling ingredients for a cake I’m making for tomorrow–I had some coworkers jokingly offer to be my guinea pigs if I wanted to test out some new recipes on them. So tomorrow I’m obliging with a cake during a meeting tomorrow. I’ll post that tomorrow evening.

The bambino cracked up once he realized there was sausage inside.

Jay wolfed down two, but I was hungry enough, I ate three!

And while I thought the chicken sausage might taste weird, it was really good. And in spite of the fact that the batter had to sit for a half-hour, it actually wasn’t all that difficult to make.

And on that note, I’m going to check and see if my cake is cooled enough to assemble, and if not, I’m off to bed!

Sharing is caring!
