“Last night or the night before that…”

I copped out on dinner last night and ordered pizza. I was being a slug for most of the day, and while doing laundry, I decided I didn’t want to cook. I had the intention of making the Parisian Steak and Cheese Croissants minus the red peppers (pretty much because I didn’t have them) at some point over the weekend, but I put it off until tonight. Holy crap, why did I wait so long?! This was sandwich perfection, even without the peppers!

Okay, and I subbed Swiss for the Brie. I have to admit, I’m a little frightened of Brie. With the exception of a super-sharp Cheddar, I don’t care for strong cheeses or ones with funny after-tastes. And there’s the fact that it melts at room temperature. I dunno, it’s a little scary. So I used Swiss instead.

I was also impressed with the nice “crust” I got on my fillets (big thanks to Cliff for the steaks–They were PERFECT for this!):

That photo does not do it justice (stupid indoor fluorescent lighting). I did about 6 minutes per side, and let them rest for close to 10 minutes. Inside was medium perfection:

Yes, I realize I’m using the word ‘perfect’ or even ‘perfection’ a lot in this post. Quite honestly, I think this is the best steak I have ever cooked! I couldn’t stop raving about it while we were eating (to the point that I think I was getting on Jay’s nerves). It really was that good.

I tried out some sweet potato tots along with. I do believe I’m starting to like sweet potatoes. The tots were good. I left them in the oven longer than recommended, just because I wanted extra crunch around the outside.

I really can’t wait to make this again. Even the arugula I made Donavon hunt down for me gave a nice burst of “green” flavor to it.

After dinner was done, I dug into the box that had been left on the porch while I was plugging away on the elliptical:

Grapefruit spoons (and a grapefruit knife)! I think the design is a little on the cheesy side, but I’m willing to put up with it, just because regular spoons don’t cut grapefruit that well. And each set of 2 was only $2.50 (as was the knife).

This would be measuring spoon set #4. I go through a lot of teaspoons especially when I’m baking.

I have a lot of knives that need sharpening.

It’s hard to tell from this picture, but that’s a stack of melamine plates. I figured that for $2.50/each, it’d be nice to have some extras on hand for when I’m entertaining. They don’t look quite as nice as my stoneware does, but they’ll do.

And speaking of entertaining, I’m thinking I should have people over again sometime soon…I haven’t had a party since my birthday! I’ll have to work on that in the next couple of weeks or so.

Sharing is caring!
