“I am so homesick, but it ain’t that bad…”

Having the afternoon off was really nice. I got a lot accomplished….Renewing the car registration, picking up toiletries, etc., at Wally World…And I got the grocery shopping done. This week’s haul:

The dairy. I about fell over when I saw this in the ice cream section:

Graeter’s Ice Cream!

I think this is another instance of the Universe cutting me some slack, and knowing I needed a taste of home. It’s just about as awesome as the time I found Skyline in the frozen food section at Wal-Mart a few years ago.

Back to the rest of the groceries:

I opted to try remaking the sausage sliders with some peppers. Well, I will try it later in the week.

Produce. Salad, grapes, and pluots. Neither Jay or I has ever had one, so I thought I’d give them a try.

Pantry stuff. The Hamburger Helper is actually for the Brookings Food Pantry, which is desperately low on food. I might toss in a box of spaghetti as well. The sprinkles were not on the list, but I couldn’t resist them after I noticed this:

My future little paleontologist and I will probably be making some cupcakes this weekend.

After our trek to traM-laW, I got to work on dinner. This morning, I asked the bambino what we should have for dinner. He said that Jay & I should have chicken nuggets with spicy sauce, and he could have chicken nuggets with ketchup. And French fries.

I was going to use the panko I bought, but at the last minute, changed my mind, and just decided on flour breading.

That would be my blend of secret herbs and spices (okay, it’s just paprika, garlic salt, onion powder, and black pepper).

They tasted fine to Jay & I, but as soon as he saw them, the bambino complained that they didn’t have “big crumbs” on them. #DinnerFail. In the bambino’s mind. Jay & I scarfed the rest.

Some buffalo sauce & they were fine! Afterwards, I popped out to DQ–Like I told Jay, the Graeter’s is mine alone, and I’m not sharing. I got my new favorite:

A Peanut Butter Bash. Either it’s a regional or local thing, because I don’t see it on the Dairy Queen website. No matter. It’s got my 3 favorites in a dessert–Chocolate, peanut butter and ice cream!

I’m saving the Graeter’s for a Cincinnati night…Probably Saturday night. I’ll make some 3-Ways, and after the bambino goes to bed, I’ll bust out the ice cream. Jay can find his own dessert!

Sharing is caring!

  1. Yeah for Graeters! I usually get that flavor or I love their chocolate chip cookie dough. You’ve got to love those giant chocolate chips they put in their ice cream!

    • There was a very limited selection, and the store has the pints priced at $5/each…But I didn’t care. I’d pay that much if I found cans of Skyline out here! :) I was waffling between the Vanilla Chocolate Chip & Double Chocolate Chip…I’ll have to go back & see if they had the Cookie Dough. I don’t think I’ve ever had it. I’d love it if I came across Pumpkin…I remember having that up in Columbus in the fall & it being one of my favorites.

  2. It’s always lovely to see food that reminds you of home … even lovelier that it is icecream. Sounds delish but unfortunately can’t get that brand here several thousand miles away. Will just have to imagine. Liking the sound of your chicken dish, even if your junior paleontologist wasn’t so appreciative.

    • I’ve had a rough couple of weeks, so it really was a nice treat. It’s too bad that you can’t get it in Ireland–I was trying to describe it to a friend at work & her eyes glazed over with anticipation when I was telling her how the chocolate “chips” are made (they’re really more like chunks)! I promised my little guy I’d try again on the chicken nuggets…Maybe next time silly ol’ Mom will get it right! :)
