Coupons and Cabernet

Today was crazy-busy at work. I had a few projects that took up most of the day, but by the time I was all done, I felt like I’d run out of steam. The rest of this week is going to be rather busy. Tomorrow, at the bambino’s daycare, there’s a visit from Santa, along with some snacks and activities for the parents and children. Wednesday night, I’m going to have to make either an appetizer or a dessert, as we have the Secret Santa Potluck/Reveal Party Thursday afternoon. Thursday night, I have to bake a cake (I’ll explain that later). Friday night, I’m hoping to just hang out at home and do a whole lot of nothing. Saturday, I have to work in the morning, then bake some cookies with the bambino, and fix some Cincinnati chili. And this year, I think I will have some Graeter’s on hand for dessert.

In the meantime, though, I made dinner at home. We had to pop out to Buttercrust, as I had a few bottles to return, and I wanted some bread since I was making pasta tonight. With The Sauce.


I can’t get over how three ingredients (butter, an onion and a can of tomatoes) can meld together so beautifully. I could eat this stuff at least once a week. I could also eat these at every meal:


The ciabatta rolls I picked up at Buttercrust (along with more milk). So chewy-crispy.


And nice and craggy to hold lots of butter. I was going to get out the olive oil and dipping spices, until I remembered we didn’t have any more dipping spices. I also can’t get enough of the shaved parmesan:


I know it’d be cheaper to just shave my own, but I also like simple and easy. I felt like popping open some vino as well:


I think I bought this back around Halloween, to take to Katie and Ernie’s. We didn’t end up drinking it, so Katie sent it home with me. I thought it would go nicely with the pasta:


I didn’t care for it, though. A bit too strong for my liking. Oh well. I think I still have a full wine rack, if I need.

Almost a year ago, I had emailed the folks at Fage, wondering if they offered samples or coupons. This was around the time that it seemed like every blogger and their dog was randomly being sent cases of Chobani. I like Fage a LOT better than Chobani, so I thought I’d see if they wanted to compete. I never heard from them until about 2 weeks ago, when I got an email from someone at Fage, offering me some coupons.


Hooray for free Fage! And they came just in time, as I’ll be making a trip to the grocery store tomorrow night!

  1. Speaking of Buttercrust, someone I know woke up recently at 4am yelling “cream horn” because they were dreaming of the one they had earlier in the day (no, it wasn’t me). Do you know what the Rootbeer milk is at Buttercrust?

    • That makes me think of “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” & George Clooney waking up muttering “My hair!” The cream horns are dream-worthy. According to Katie, so are the cinnamon rolls, which I think I’m going to have to go and pick up one of later this morning. As for the Root beer milk…I know Burbach’s does a different flavored milk each month…One of the Buttercrust employees likened it to a melted root beer float, but I haven’t summoned the nerve to try it yet!
