The Terrible Twos

Well, well. As of today, this incarnation of my blog is now officially a toddler (although if you counted my time at Blog-City, I would be at the 7 1/2 year mark, but since I never transferred those files over, we’ll just go with this). It’s hard being all reflective and waxing poetic about the past year, especially with a pounding headache (no, not the result of too much alcohol; there’s a damn cold front passing through). I would like to think that as far as writing and such goes, I have improved somewhat. I’ve always thought that the more you write, the better you become, and while I don’t blog every single day, I do it as frequently as I can.

I’d also like to think that my photography is getting better. And while I did just drop a small fortune on a new camera, I don’t necessarily think that just because I now have a DSLR my pictures are going to be Foodgawker-worthy overnight (although I might now have some renewed confidence about submitting something to them or to Tastespotting). But it’s like writing. The more you practice or work on it, the better you get. And heaven knows, I’ve got a long way to go before I even figure out all the bells and whistles on my new camera!

I see that around the food blogging atmosphere, a lot of people are doing their top 10 recipes or posts from last year. I suppose I could’ve done that as well, but my most popular post still seems to be this one, and it’s still just from people (I assume) looking for more info about Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks.” Either that, or they’re looking at my kitchen wish list (which I doubt). Rather than go to the trouble of figuring out my top 10 whatever-posts, I thought instead I’d make this short and sweet, and I’d do a small giveaway, involving my favorite food item:

Peanut butter! And some jelly (sorry, the bread stays with me). If I had to live off one food item for the rest of my life, it would be peanut butter. It was a staple in my lunchbox as a child, it got me through college, it got me through my lean years of working fast food, and it’s now something I can share with my son, who seems to love it as much as I do.

And so, the winner of my little blog-birthday giveaway will receive the above-shown jar of PB&Co.’s Smooth Operator Peanut Butter (it’s some good stuff!) and a jar of Gorgeous Grape Jelly (I can’t vouch for it, as we haven’t tried it yet, but we are fans of the Seriously Strawberry). In order to enter, just leave me a comment telling me one thing you hope to accomplish this year. Is it getting debt paid down? Losing weight? Or something more simple, like baking bread for the first time? This giveaway will run until 6:00 PM CST, Friday, January 6, 2012.

DISCLAIMER: This giveaway is sponsored by myself only. While I am happy to pimp out Peanut Butter & Co.’s products, they don’t know me from Adam. The giveaway winner will be selected by a random number generator, and notified by email, so please make sure you leave your email address if you comment. Bonne année et bonne santé!

  1. I hope to become a little more organized. And to quit sweating the small stuff in life!

  2. This year I would like to finally figure out what I want to be when I grow up! Happy New Year!!

  3. My life got a little off track this year with Joe’s new job and baby Dane’s arrival. This year I want to adjust to changes, organize and move forward. And I need to get back to my blog (in my free time).

By the way every time I shop I see a new flavor of ths PB – most recently it was like white chocolate PB or some such delicious non sense.

    • If I could “like” this comment a billion times, I would do so. If anyone deserves good health and happiness this year, it’s you!

  6. A non-sponsored giveaway! That means it’s OK for me to enter. GOMI made me feel guilty of entering sponsored giveaways…

    1) I would like to have a boyfriend that can drive me anywhere I want
    2) I would like to keep my room in a somewhat-acceptable-clean state
    3) I would like t win the lottery and win $$$
    4) I would like to feel better mentally
    5) If I can’t have the boyfriend, I would like to get my driver license without killing somebody

    • Done and done! Hopefully you won’t have any issues if you choose to come back here! :) And I agree–GOMI makes me feel guilty for the couple of sponsored giveaways and posts I’ve done too!

  7. I enjoy reading your blog. You have such a neat way of sharing your life- Thanks
My goal for the year is to lose weight. Go to Brookings and eat at the places you blog about! Maybe if I walk to Brookings and I can accomplish both goals!
