Nutella Turnovers: A Breakfast of Champions

I hate insomnia. Hate it with the passion of 2 billion blazing white-hot suns. I’ve suffered from it for years; I don’t know why I don’t do anything about it other than complain. Lately, it’s been somewhat manageable, but last night, I had an awful bout with it. Awful as in, I went to bed around 10:15, and finally threw in the towel and parked on the couch at 3:15 this morning. I fell asleep sometime after that, but was awakened at 7 by a loud little voice informing the house that it was “wake-up time!” So here I am. If we watch Father Ted this evening, I assume I will howl with uncontrollable laughter when Father Ted has to kick Bishop Brennan up the arse (never minding the fact that I’ve seen the episode twice already!). It’s going to be one of those days.

And while normally, I might fix a decent Sunday breakfast, I decided to try something a little different.

Nutella Turnovers.

I’d asked a couple days ago for some ideas on what to do with this:

A blog friend suggested turnovers, which I thought was an excellent idea. Until I came across this recipe for sandwich cookies involving Nutella, and then thought I’d use the JIF on those, and these for the turnovers:

Those are the last two of the samples my mom sent me back in August or September last year! I had just enough samples for these beauties:

Of course, you could wrap a leathery old shoe in puff pastry and I would still think it was great. These were so flaky and crispy and delicious.

If we weren’t going to be throwing down a Sunday dinner with Jay’s parents in less than an hour, I’d go back for another one with a huge glass of milk. That, and I promised a couple people at work I’d bring some if Jay and the bambino didn’t scavenge them all before tomorrow! In the meantime, I have to clean up this morning’s mess so I can make another mess this afternoon!

Sharing is caring!

    • Yeah, I think you might be the only one who doesn’t like it. ;) You could really put anything in there…Fruit/jam, a piece of a dark chocolate…Whatever floats your boat! My husband thought he was getting a fruit-filled turnover when I brought it to him–He was pleasantly surprised when he took a bite!

Those fudge pops look so easy…My son would love them!

    • It was REALLY good! I could eat Nutella for just about any meal, but I like it a lot for breakfast for some reason. And yes, the JIF is delicious too. I want to find a way to incorporate it into brownies and/or ice cream. :)
