Cheerios Snack Mix (and a Giveaway!)-CLOSED

Once again, I’m hosting a giveaway courtesy of the folks at MyBlogSpark. This is a pretty cool one, as you get a lot of stuff:

Retro Cheerios

Retro Lucky Charms

Retro Parcheesi and Gift Card

(That’d be a $10 gift card to Target attached to the game). The whole point to this? Well:

Starting mid-March Big G cereals will once again be going “Retro” with special edition classic packaging from the 1950’s, ’60s and ’80s!

For a limited time you can relive your childhood by heading on over to your local Target® store’s cereal aisle, as Big G cereals have brought back their “Retro” themed packaging.

To help celebrate the event, Big G has team up with Hasbro®, offering a $5 coupon on Clue® Vintage, Scrabble® Vintage, Parcheesi® Vintage or Risk® Vintage board games at Target!

  • Don’t forget to go online & print a coupon for $1 off 2 General Mills cereals before you head to Target!
  • Collect all 5 different throw-back packages that each include a $5 coupon for these vintage Hasbro® board games; available exclusively at Target® from March 15, 2013 to April 30, 2013 while supplies last. Coupon valid at Target stores from March 15, 2013 to December 31, 2013.
  • Participating Big G cereals include: Cinnamon Toast Crunch® (16.2 oz.), Lucky Charms® (16 oz.), Honey Nut Cheerios® (17 oz.), Cheerios® (18 oz.) and Cocoa Puffs® (16.5 oz.)
  • Participating Hasbro vintage board games: Clue® Vintage, Scrabble® Vintage, Parcheesi® Vintage or Risk® Vintage

The cereals not only come with game coupons, but they also have different snack recipes. I’m not a huge fan of Lucky Charms (although I will admit to sneaking the occasional marshmallow from the box), so I decided to make Cheerios Snack Mix:

Cheerios Snack Mix

And hopefully the folks at Betty Crocker/General Mills won’t mind me sharing the recipe with you:

Yield: 14

Cheerios Snack Mix

Cheerios Snack Mix
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 50 minutes
Total Time 55 minutes

  • 3 C Cheerios® cereal
  • 3 C corn chips
  • 1 C unsalted peanuts
  • 1 C small pretzels
  • 1/3 C butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Heat oven to 300°F.

In large bowl, mix cereal, corn chips, peanuts and pretzels. In small bowl, mix remaining ingredients and pour over cereal mixture. Toss until evenly coated. Spread onto a large baking sheet.

Bake uncovered for 15 minutes, stirring once. Cool completely, about 30 minutes

Want to win a prize pack of your own?

RetroPrizePackYou’ll get the two boxes of cereal, a vintage version of Parcheesi (which I have never played, but this comes in a very nice wooden box, and we’re going to sit down and play it one night this week), and a $10 gift card to Target, presumably to either pick yourself up more cereal or another game. And you could use one of the coupons on the back of your cereals to aid in the purchase of another vintage-styled game.

To Enter: As usual, I just like comments. Feel free to like my page on Facebook, or follow me on Twitter, if you so desire, but I never make it a requirement. Tell me what you like for breakfast. Are you a bowl-of-cereal kind of person? Yogurt and granola? Full-on country breakfast (if so, you are lucky!)? Or do you skip breakfast? For me, it depends. I like cereal, but I’m one of those folks who’s starving about 5 minutes after I finish the bowl. If I work out in the morning (which I have been doing lately), I usually have a protein shake with some berries, and then a slice of toast with peanut butter. I need a protein-heavy breakfast most days, so when I have the time, I’ll usually fix myself a couple eggs/egg whites along with some toast and fruit. But that’s just me.

The contest will run from now until 6:00 PM CDT, Friday, March 29, 2013. The winner will be chosen using, and will have 48 hours to respond (so make sure to leave your email address so I can contact you–I’m the only one who sees it), otherwise a new winner will be chosen. This contest is open to US residents only.

Disclosure: The prize pack, information, and giveaway have been provided by General Mills through MyBlogSpark.

  1. Most days, it’s a smoothie, and a bowl of plain Greek yogurt with honey and granola. Weekends are for things like biscuits and gravy…mmmm.

  2. I like dinner for breakfast. Leftover pasta, veggie soup, casseroles. Anything savory. Not much for traditional breakfast.

  3. During the week maybe a boiled egg or something small. Weekends – bring on the county breakfast – deer sausage, eggs and taters!

  4. I love cereal but like you about 5 minutes after I finish I am hungry again. Now I try to have more protein at breakfast along with some fruits.

  5. Cereal is my favorite late night snack! I usually put a cup of milk on the freezer (because I only like my cereal with really cold milk) before we put the kids to bed and once I’ done with everything I sit down to enjoy my cereal and to watch tv

  6. Thanks for not making us jump through hoops to enter the giveaway! And just for that I WILL like your FB page and Follow you on Twitter!

  7. BTW…I love to have a high fiber cereal bar and a cup of coffee for breakfast! =)

  8. I have a super power fruit smoothie and usually some homemade granola with almond milk.

  9. I’d be fine with a bowl of cereal, but my husband doesn’t feel loved unless he gets a nice hot breakfast every morning. So I have the cereal for lunch, instead :)
