I used to make smoothies on a pretty regular basis, when I was still in my psuedo-healthy-living phase. I managed to kill my mom’s old school avocado green blender that was probably about as old as I am. I got myself a new one, but I wasn’t thrilled by it, because I was constantly having to stop, move the contents around, and if I was lucky, didn’t get splashed in the face by an air pocket. So I was happy to oblige when the folks at Hamilton Beach asked me to test their WaveAction Blender.
(And yes, you can see me and my camera in the blender’s reflection)
From the website: “The Hamilton Beach® Wave~Action® Blender easily makes smoothies or shakes, and it’s also great for making soups, sauces, or salsa. Ordinary blenders spin contents around the walls of the jar, which can leave whole chunks untouched by the blades. The unique Wave~Action® System is designed to continually force the mixture down into the blades for consistently smooth results. Enjoy no-mess serving with an easy-pour spout that eliminates drips.” Here’s some video of the machine in action:
I will say that I have not used all the functions on the blender as yet. I haven’t tried making salsa in it, but will give that a go once our tomatoes and peppers are ready to harvest. I also haven’t used it to puree soup, as it’s just been too bloody hot for it–And this is coming from someone who will happily eat soup year-round!
I have made milkshakes and smoothies with it, though. For the milkshakes, it worked beautifully. And for the smoothies, it worked fine too, although due to the frozen strawberries I was using, it took several jabs with the spoon to move the berries around. I will admit the fault is mine, as the recipe (which I’ll have for you in a couple days) even states the berries should be slightly thawed, and once I added a little addition liquid, everything moved around just fine.
I have to say, I also like how sturdy the glass pitcher is–It’s very heavy and it doesn’t wobble on the motor. I also really like the spout, which is definitely less messy than my previous blender was. Overall, I think it’s a decent, solid blender, and best of all, it’s under $40!
So, if you’re in the market for a new blender yourself, Hamilton Beach is giving away a WaveAction Blender to one of you! I’ve been wanting a blender to start making my own hummus. It would be a lot cheaper and I would be able to control the ingredients.
My blender is 22 years old so a new one would be awesome!
Adult beverages. Nuff said. :)
I’d love to win this!
The one I have I bought at a yard sale for a dollar.
I would use it to make salsa.
Thank you for the chance :)
