Sunday Rambles

Moon and trees

Well, hello there! I realize it’s been forever since I’ve posted anything, but it hasn’t been for lack of trying. Work has kept me rather busy since the beginning of the year.

I had taken the company close off last year, and after going back to work right before New Year’s we were still in the process of playing year-end catch up. I got into the habit of working through my lunch breaks, and staying until five (my shift ended at four-thirty). And then, on a bit of a whim, I decided to apply for a new position within the company.

New cube

Which I got! I moved to my new area, and was there for not quite a month, before we got word we are to work from home until the end of April (possibly longer). I’ve been home for two weeks now, which is okay since the bambino starts online classwork this coming Monday.

I opted to celebrate my new job with a treat in the form of a fancy-pants fountain pen.

Pineider La Grande Bellezza

I’ve had my eye on this pen for ages, and managed to snag the last one in a Bold nib (my preferred nib width). I have fountain pens from several different manufacturers, and this is the smoothest-writing pen I have ever had the pleasure of using. No kidding, it practically glides across the paper.

And it’s a bold enough nib that it’s almost like a stub/calligraphy nib.

(Sorry. I know that means nothing if you’re not into fountain pens)

Journal and Pen

I have been spending a LOT of time with my journal. And I’m actually somewhat caught up with my letter-writing. I only have FIVE letters in my reply pile, instead of twenty-five (yes, I’ve been that behind before), and that’s having received two letters in Saturday’s mail.

A lot of that is due to having an actual lunch break again. Since I’m still sort of in training, I can take the full hour I’m allowed. And that means I spend about half that time working on a letter.

Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been trying to seriously cut our food budget. It’s been ridiculous, and rather eye-opening just how much we’ve been spending.

And now that we’re basically home-bound for the foreseeable future, I’ve been doing a LOT more cooking than I had been. My slow-cookers (and yes, I have three of them, all different sizes) have been my lifesavers. I think I’m about the only food blogger left who DOESN’T own an Instant Pot.

Soup, Salad, and Panini

But it means I can make things like the Italian Bread Rolls pictured above, as well as No-Knead Bread.

And after a particularly draining day, I made a batch of my Favorite Brownies

My Favorite Brownies

They didn’t last very long, but as far as comfort food goes, those hit the spot every time I make them.

And that’s really all that’s been happening as of late. I’m expecting that much of my summer travel plans will be cancelled. So far only one of the three concerts I was planning on attending this spring/summer has been postponed, though I expect at least one more will likely be cancelled, possibly both.

Which will suck, but right now, what can you do?
