I’m not sure I quite grasp the idea of a frozen hot chocolate. Isn’t it basically just a chocolate milkshake? Or a frappe-type drink, minus the coffee? Still, when it’s really hot out (like it has been for the past couple of days here in SoDak), and I’m too lazy to make ice cream, something cool and creamy hits the spot. And this Hazelnut Frozen Hot Chocolate is perfect.
Made with milk, chocolate-hazelnut spread, and ice, it’s topped with some unsweetened whipped cream and chocolate curls. It’s a drinkable dessert, and comes together in a snap, once you get some minor prep-work out of the way.
The bambino predictably LOVED it, as did Jay and I. And it’s great for beating the heat.
Temps pushing 100 already, and it’s only June. UGH. We usually don’t get that till late July or August. Though I think the heat’s about to break, and get back to “normal” low 80’s. In the meantime, I’ll just keep sipping on these!
I shared a preview picture of these on Facebook, and a friend of mine suggested adding Frangelico and Godiva to them, if you want a more adult beverage. Kahlua or Baileys would also be tasty additions. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and chocolate-hazelnut spread. Whisk over low heat until combined and smooth. Remove from heat and cool. In a blender, add the ice cubes, milk mixture, and cocoa powder. Blend until smooth. Divide between 2 or 3 cups. Whip the cream until stiff peaks form. Add a dollop to each serving of frozen hot chocolate, and top with chocolate curls.
