And now for something completely different…

I’m going to switch focus (not that I have any, really) and do a post that’s mostly non-food related. Awhile ago, I was approached by blogger/author Monica Leonelle regarding her new book Socialpunk, and asked if I’d like to be part of a blog tour.

Unfortunately, she approached me just as the final weeks of Dreaded Tax Season were in full-swing, so I chose to go with the interview option (I also fear I’m a week later than what I promised as far as having this ready to go, and for that, I do apologize). Less than a review (as I have not yet had a chance to finish her book, between work and getting sucked into the train wreck that was Fifty Shades of Effed Up!), but a little more work than just doing an excerpt. And because I’m a food blogger, I threw in a couple food-related questions.

1. What motivated you to start writing?
I started a Gen Y blog in 2007 called Twenty Set. It actually gained quite
a bit of steam early on, but eventually I moved away from Gen Y topics. The
reason I started that blog, though, is because I couldn’t clear my mind! I
literally just needed to get things out of my system. So I wrote that blog
4-5 times a week for about six months until my ideas stop churning so
quickly. My love for writing as an adult grew out of that experience.

2. What is your favorite book of all time and why?
This year I loved the Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare because it’s
romantic and sweet.

3. Who is your favorite author and why?
I don’t have one.

4. Give one reason as to why my readers should read your book.
The book is original and fast-paced and like nothing you’ve ever read
before. If you enjoy stuff like The Matrix, Inception, Minority Report, or
the Terminator movies, you might like this book too.

5. What’s your favorite non-writing-related activity?
Probably hanging out with my boyfriend, or sleeping! I need a break

6. Where’s the best pizza in Chicago?
A place called Pat’s Pizza. There are a few locations but I always go to
the one in South Loop.

*(I threw this in here because I LOVE deep-dish Chicago-style pizza. My boss attends a conference in Chicago, and every year, I ask if he’ll bring me back a pizza. So far, he hasn’t, and two years ago, he decided it’d be funny to flaunt the fact that he went to the original Pizzeria Uno. I haven’t forgiven him for that one.)

7. For anyone visiting Chicago, what restaurant do they HAVE to try?
I love Custom House in the South Loop.

Thanks to The Hunger Games trilogy and Jay’s minor obsession with post-apocalyptic movies and self-sufficiency, I can say that from what I have read of Socialpunk so far, I like (and admittedly, I am not that far into the book…However, books and music are the same for me. I can tell within 10 seconds whether or not I’m going to like a song, and I can tell within about 4 or 5 pages whether or not I’m going to finish a book. It is why I’ve never completed Moby Dick. I cannot for the life of me get past the first page!). To check it out for yourself, it’s available at Barnes & Noble, as well as Amazon. To make things more fun, Monica is also hosting a contest along with the book release:
