Some days I think the Universe likes to really screw with me. My back is still not 100%, although I’m hobbling around less like an old man these days. I’m still in a fair amount of pain, and it’s hard to bend over or stand up, if I’ve been sitting for more than 30 minutes. I do not make a good patient, and it’s extremely frustrating and irritating to be limited in what I can do, and to be in as much pain as I am, from doing the simplest of tasks.
But I thought after checking my email this morning that the Universe might’ve decided that after last week and the bout with the back pain, I deserved a break. As it turns out, I won a giveaway over at Shannon’s Kitchen Creations, and I will soon be receiving a selection of Food Should Taste Good chips! I have to admit, I’m pretty jazzed about the giveaway, and I also am a little envious of her blog. Not only does she do really awesome giveaways (for lots of organic & natural foods), but she has a lot of recipes too (Her Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese is on my list of things to make one of these days!). That was a cool way to start off my morning, and since I was in a good mood, I got to work on breakfast. Sausage, hash browns, and these:
Chocolate chip scones, from Sticky Fingers Bakeries. I usually buy these at World Market, and I love their Original Scones (they’re like a sweet biscuit, but with a bit of baking soda undertone…Kind of hard to describe, but slathered in butter, they’re delicious!). I gave the bambino the option between the Original & the Cocoa-Chocolate Chip, and not surprisingly, he chose the chocolate ones. And I guess I can’t really blame him:
My friend Lisa is my egg dealer & I made arrangements last week with her to buy a dozen. We’ve had trouble crossing paths, so I popped over to the bank to pick them up, as I have at least one baking project I’m hoping to tackle this weekend. After that, we popped over to the grocery store to pick up a few things:
Ginger Snap. Luckily for me, the bambino seems to like whatever flavors I don’t, so at least it won’t go to waste if I decide I don’t care for it.
The bread & mozzarella are for sandwiches this evening…Grilled cheese and (wait for it) peppers. Yes, peppers. Jay planted a new (to us) variety of peppers this year, called Nardello peppers.
I don’t remember where I found it, but somewhere I came upon a recipe for simple sandwiches, made from sautéed peppers & mozzarella, and popped under the broiler. I have to admit, when it comes to garden produce and trying not to waste it, it’s far easier to talk Jay into “vegetarian night.” I also picked up some greenish bananas:
And my reason for why I think the Universe likes screwing with me? After we got back from the store, Jay decided to go out and mow the lawn. He put it off from last week, and after about 15-20 minutes, I heard what sounded like him running over a piece of paper or a small branch with a bunch of leaves attached. Then I heard the lawnmower stop, although I just assumed it ran out of gas…Until suddenly Jay was standing in the living room, while I was trying to tell the bambino that while I would love to play with him outside right now, I can’t move all that well. Apparently the flap on the back dislodged and before Jay had a chance to stop the mower, it somehow got sucked underneath and damaged one of the wheels. Hopefully it won’t be too expensive to repair!
