Even though this is my least favorite time of the year, and Christmas is about my least-favorite holiday, I do try and quell my Grinch-like instincts for the sake of the bambino. He’s still enthralled by Christmas and the magic of Santa Claus (although now that he’s in school, Jay and I are pretty sure this will be the last year he still believes in Santa), and he’s too young to be jaded and cynical like his parents are. Still, I will admit that through the eyes of a child, certain things are kind of fun. Over the weekend, we built gingerbread dog houses. And one evening, we spent decorating Easy Gingerbread Cutouts:
Pre-made cookie dough and whatever sprinkles, baking chips, frostings you have in the pantry make for an easy way to create sweet memories with your little one. In fact, really the most work you have to do is to roll out the cookie dough, cut out your shapes, and bake them!
I think the bambino had a lot of fun.
What can I say? I heart Star Trek! If you need more holiday inspiration, Pillsbury along with Serious Eats have tons of recipes, along with these:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside. Cut the roll of gingerbread dough in half. Spread 1/2 C of the flour on a cutting board or other hard surface. Coat one of the dough halves in flour, as well as a rolling pin. Roll the dough out to a thickness of 1/4-inch. Cut out desired shapes with floured cookie cutters. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake 7-9 minutes. Cool for 1 minute before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with the other dough half. Decorate the cookies as desired.Easy Gingerbread People
