“First thing you learn is that you always gotta wait…”

My weekend whirlwind of activity spilled into the week. I baked cookies last night:

And that is all that is left of them. I took 2 containers to work with me–One for my department, and one for a committee meeting I had this afternoon. I came home with 2 empty containers, which is just fine with me! Not only do I find it flattering that people will devour my baked goods, but the less I have to bring back home, the less I personally will eat!

After work this evening, I went and got my hair cut:

Excuse the peeling wallpaper on the ceiling. I have no idea why people did that back in the day…My dad’s house is roughly the same age as ours, and his ceilings had wallpaper too. Of course, he has the money to have had that scraped & painted over, and at the moment, we don’t. But that’s one of the disadvantages to having an older home. Nothing against newer houses, but I like the charm of old homes. I like the fact that my living room has pretty cool woodwork that hasn’t been painted over. I don’t care for the fact that the wallpaper on my bedroom ceiling is peeling, though.

Anyway, after I got home from my haircut, I got to work on dinner.

Fried Rice with Beef, courtesy of Dishing Up Delights. I’ve made it before & it’s good. The bambino especially likes it, more because of the rice, but at least he ate it. I also made a new side dish:

Sesame Green Beans. I found the recipe in my Taste of Home June/July issue. It’s simple–You toss the beans (along with a red bell pepper, which I didn’t use because we didn’t have any ripe yet) with a tablespoon each of sesame seeds, rice vinegar, and sesame oil, then roast them at 425°F for 20 minutes. Jay actually had seconds on them, and I ate all mine (which, admittedly, was a small serving).

I’m working on liking them more, I really am. I liked the roasted flavor, and the sesame seeds.

Some of you already know this, but I’ve applied for a different job–Still within my current department, but doing some additional, different duties. Last week I had an interview (which, I will say, it is weird interviewing with your current supervisor), which I think went well. Now I’m just waiting to hear the results. I had hoped to know this afternoon–Before my hair appointment. Alas, I’m still waiting!

I also just read online that the Taste of Brookings is this Saturday evening. What a crappy food blogger I am–A food festival in my own town, and I didn’t even know! Pathetic, I tell ya. Oh well. I have no idea how much tickets are, and it would be nice to go, but I’ll more than likely miss out again this year. No matter. There’s always next year!
