I remember the first time I heard about grilled pizza. I was in high school, and my friend Sandy’s parents grilled all the time. Her mom was the home ec teacher at our high school, and I was always envious of the well-stocked freezer they had.

I thought it was both strange but also really smart that Mrs. H. would spend a day doing food prep, and they could eat for a month, if not longer! I also thought her brownies were to die for–She added chocolate chips to them, which made them better than my mom’s (sorry Mum).

I remember Sandy telling me about her dad trying to grill pizza, and it not working out the first time. I think either the dough slipped in between the grill grates, or it stuck to them. I’m pretty sure he later mastered it, though.

We’ve been grilling a lot lately. Well, a lot for us. We’ve already gone through a bag of charcoal, which doesn’t usually happen.

Normally, we’ve got about half a bag left at the end of autumn. Already we’re on bag number two, and I expect that we’ll need a third bag before the grill gets relegated to the back of the garage for the nine months of winter we’ll no doubt get.

But I don’t want to think about that right now. I’d rather tell you how awesome this Cheddar BBQ Pulled Pork Grilled Pizza is. My mom got me a pizza grilling pan for Christmas last year, and I’ve been testing it out.

It’s smoky, it’s cheesy, it’s crisp but chewy. Had I not burnt the bottom, it would’ve been absolutely perfect!

(Don’t be like me and leave your grill unattended for too long. I have a bad habit of wandering around the yard with my camera or phone, or popping in and out of the house while I’m grilling. It’s fire after all, so don’t do that.)

This pizza is really simple to make. Three ingredients, not including the dough.

Not shown is the pulled pork you’ll also need. I used frozen bread dough, but if you have a favorite recipe for homemade pizza dough, by all means, use that.

You just stretch the dough out, top it with some True Made Foods BBQ Sauce, pork, and as much cheddar cheese as you’d like. Pop it on the grill for 12-15 minutes, and you’ve got pizza!

(That’s the point where I should’ve pulled it off the grill, but I got sidetracked. Don’t let that happen to you! Also, you’ll want to remember to prep your grill for indirect, not direct heat.)

The only complaint Jay and the bambino had? We all could’ve easily eaten two pizzas between the three of us. And we all loved the True Made Foods Original BBQ Sauce.

It’s made with vegetables which sweeten the sauce naturally. And I love the fact that the company was founded by a couple of veterans (being the daughter of a Vietnam vet and all).

Cheddar BBQ Pulled Pork Grilled Pizza

  • 1 loaf frozen bread dough, or 1 recipe homemade pizza dough
  • 2/3 C True Made Foods Original BBQ Sauce
  • 1 C pulled pork
  • shredded cheddar cheese

Thaw the bread dough (if using) according the package instructions.

Prepare the grill for medium indirect heat.

Spread out onto a grilling pizza pan (approximately 12-inches in diameter). Top with the BBQ Sauce, pulled pork, and shredded cheese.

Place on the grill, and cover. Cook 12-15 minutes, rotating the pan so the pizza cooks evenly.

Remove and cut into slices.
