Pancakes, Dinosaurs and Meatloaf

I think I’m now recovered from Hairball, and I can hear again. I’m also glad I don’t have to go into work tomorrow. I was up between 2:30 and 3:15 this morning, because the bambino cried out very loudly in his sleep. I did fall back asleep and woke up for good around 7:45. I think I’m going to try going to bed early this evening. After “Meet the Press” was over, I got to work on breakfast:

Buttermilk pancakes, from Van’s.

And sausage from Jones. Both were very good.

I had to chuckle when making the pancakes, as you nuke them in the microwave, and I had flashbacks from working the breakfast shift at Mickey Dee’s. Some days I miss it, but most of the time, I’m glad I got out when I did!

Once we got breakfast and showers out of the way, we headed off to the Children’s Museum for a few hours. The bambino loves the place, and I thought my mom might get a kick out of seeing it.

I think she enjoyed herself. We popped into the cafe for a snack (since we ate breakfast late), where I decided I needed a piece of chocolate cheese-cake:

Or maybe it’s supposed to be Tuxedo cake or something like that. Regardless, I saw it and I needed to eat it. My mom and I had gone to the cafe while Jay and the bambino opted to stick around the gym area and play a little longer. They joined us, and after Jay decided he was hungry, we went to order something for him. We came back to the table, and a fourth of my cake was missing. I should know better than to leave desserts unattended when my son has easy access to them!

We didn’t do a whole lot for the rest of the afternoon. I started on dinner–Pioneer Woman’s Favorite Meatloaf. I forgot to take pictures of it, but I made the full recipe this time, and it’s HUGE! My mom and I had seconds, and Jay had his usual helping, and we still have about two-thirds left. It’s a good thing I love cold meatloaf almost more than I like meatloaf fresh from the oven! Afterwards, we popped out to the store, as my mom wanted some dessert:

Neapolitan ice cream for us, and chocolate pudding for the bambino. I don’t know what it is about artificially-flavored strawberry ice cream, but I love it. And I know, I should just get out the ice cream maker, and make up my own stuff. But after cooking dinner, I was happy not to have to worry about dessert!

And as I mentioned a few days ago, I am doing a giveaway for some Van’s products. 2 people will each receive 2 coupons, 1 for a free box of Waffles, Waffle Sticks, Pancakes, or French Toast Sticks, and 1 coupon for a new product, Muffin Crowns. I haven’t yet tried the Muffin Crowns–I’ll have to bug Hy-Vee about stocking them. But I can attest to the fact that the waffles and pancakes are excellent.

TO ENTER: As you probably know by now, I loathe giveaways that make you like things on Facebook, then follow people on Twitter and tweet about stuff, blah blah blah. I hate jumping through hoops on other giveaways (even though I do it for things I might really want, like Kitchen Aid Stand Mixers or other free stuff because I’m poor and I’m cheap), so I don’t like making other people do it either. As I always say, if you want to “like” me on Facebook, I would love that, as it boosts my ego and makes me happy. So does following me on Twitter. But I’m not going to make you do it. What I will ask you to do is to answer the following question: What’s your favorite breakfast item? Are you a French toast kind of person? Do you like pancakes? Biscuits or toast? Do you prefer stocking up on breakfast meats? Personally, I’d have one of just about everything when it comes to breakfast, and I could eat breakfast for every meal!

DISCLAIMER/LEGAL STUFF: The coupons have been provided to me by the fine folks at Van’s Natural Foods. My reviews of their products are my own opinions–I’ve been buying them for a couple years, and I think they make a high-quality breakfast product. The giveaway will run until 6:00 PM on Friday, October 28th, 2011. 2 winners will be randomly chosen, and announced sometime on Saturday, October 29th. GOOD LUCK!
